ML17171A198 Indian Point is the most dangerous nuclear facility in the USA Spent fuel pools and gas pipelines are accessible by plane Photo taken by Paul Blanch flying within FAA approved airspace (15 seconds from plant)

Fukushima release was significantly less than Chernobyl

Uninhabitable region from a postulated spent fuel pool accident in Pennsylvania (Indian Point spent fuel pools are more than 2 times larger)

Consequences of an explosion of spent fuel at Indian Point

  • Entire population and infrastructure of NYC and Hudson Valley destroyed
  • Damage about 50% of the US GDP--- $8 Trillion for an Indian Point release
  • An act of malice may be caused by single person (plane or vehicle)
  • Consequences worse than a nuclear attack (except for prompt fatalities)
  • Nuclear plants have no flight restrictions and no air defense Gas pipelines in the Indian Point proximity significantly increase the probability and consequences of a spent fuel pool release NRC refuses to address gas pipeline issue due to nuclear economics
