THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION RECEIPT OF THE NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTES WHITE PAPER, FIRST PRINCIPLES FOR USE IN DEVELOPING DESIGN CERTIFICATION TIER 1 INFORMATION AND INSPECTIONS, TESTS, ANALYSES AND ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA AND FEE EXEMPTION REQUEST DATED JUNE 14, 2017
Dear Mr. Tschiltz:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received your letter dated June 14, 2017, requesting the staffs review and feedback on the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) white paper entitled First Principles for Use in Developing Design Certification Tier 1 Information and Inspections, Tests, Analyses and Acceptance Criteria and your request for a fee exemption to conduct the review. In addition, NEI indicated its intent to contact the NRC with a request for a public meeting to discuss the white paper.
The NRC is currently considering both written requests and expects to issue a determination letter within 60 days.
