SUBJECT:
EVALUATIONOF SAFETY RELIEF VALVEINSERVICE TESTING RELIEF REQUEST FOR SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT2 (TAC NO. MA2480)
Dear Mr. Byram:
By letter dated August 3, 1998, PP8L, Inc. (the licensee), submitted a request for relief from certain ASME Code inservice testing requirements pertaining to tests of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Unit 2 (Susquehanna 2), main steam safety/relief valves (S/RVs). This request was superseded in its entirety by letter dated October 19, 1998, which revised the request for the same relief.
The enclosed safety evaluation provides the results of the staffs review. The staff finds the alternative proposal by PP8L, Inc. authorized pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i) on the basis that it provides an acceptable level of quality and safety.
If, in the future, the Technical Specifications safety/relief valve setpoint tolerance should be revised to be less restrictive, the licensee will need to resubmit the request for relief because the basis for the staff acceptance of this relief willhave been changed.
Ifyou have. any questions regarding this evaluation, please contact the Susquehanna Project Manager, Victor Nerses, at (301) 415-1484.
Sincerely, original signed by:
