The enclosed
report documents
a resident
inspection
conducted
by Ms.
M.
Banerjee,
Mr. B. J.
McDermott,
and others
from December
19,
1995 through
February
5,
1996, at the Susquehanna
Steam Electric Station
(SSES),
Salem
Township, Pennsylvania.
Areas relevant to the health
and safety of the public
examined during the inspection
are described
in the enclosed report.
At the
conclusion of the inspection,
the inspectors
summarized their preliminary
findings with Mr. G. J.
Kuczynski
and other members of your staff.
We consider the recent operations
management's
effort to reduce the number of
lit annunciators
in the control
room,
and the monthly status
review meeting to
ensure
appropriate prioritization of corrective actions to reduce the operator
work around
items are considered
as very positive initiatives.
It appears
to us that you are taking aggressive
actions to resolve the
recently identified health physics
issues
related to inadequate
surveys,
postings,
and contaminated
items found outside the radiologically controlled
areas.
These
issues
are of concern to us,
and
we will continue to follow your
progress
in these
areas.
