The enclosed
report documents
a resident
inspection
conducted
by Hs.
H.
Banerjee,
Hr. B. J. HcDermott,
from August 6,
1995 through September
18,
1995,
at the Susquehanna
Steam Electric Station
(SSES),
Salem Township,
Areas relevant to the health
and safety of the public examined
during the inspection
are described
in the enclosed
report.
At the conclusion
of the inspection,
the inspectors
summarized their preliminary. findings
with'r.
G. J.
Kuczynski
and other
members of your staff.
The actions
taken
by your staff in response
to the dropped
new fuel bundle,
including development of a detailed recovery plan, safety evaluation,
and root
cause
assessment,
demonstrated
a strong safety perspective
and
an effective
organizational
response
to the event.
We noted that appropriate
consideration
was given to deferral of the planned electrical
bus maintenance
to avoid the
potential for complicating the fuel bundle recovery.
Very good management
oversight was'bserved
throughout this evolution.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice,"
a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the
NRC Public Document
Room.
