Mr. Robert G. Byram

Dear Mr. Byram:

SUBJECT'USQUEHANNA ENGINEERING INSPECTIONS 94-10 AND 94-07

This letter refers to the announced

inspection conducted by Ms. Brenda J. Whitacre of this

office from May 9-13, 1994, at the Susquehanna

Steam Electric Station.

The preliminary

results of this inspection were discussed with Mr. G. Stanley and others of your staff at the

conclusion of the inspection on May 13, 1994.

This inspection was focused toward areas important to public health and safety, specifically

Unit 2 power uprate modifications.

In general, we found the modifications to be thoroughly

developed, fully evaluated,

and well engineered.

Most of the modifications we reviewed

were installed without significant changes to the original design packages,

and our

observations indicated high quality installation, including the frequent presence of engineers

in the field.

No reply to this letter is necessary,

and your cooperation with us was appreciated.

Systems Section
