NRC REGION I COMBINED INSPECTION 50-387/92-25; 50-388/92-25
This letter transmits the results of safety inspections conducted by Messrs. G. S. Barber and
D. J. Mannai from September 29 through November 9, 1992, at the Susquehanna
Steam
Electric Station, Salem Township, Pennsylvania.
At the conclusion of the inspection, Mr.
Barber, Senior Resident Inspector, summarized the inspection findings with Mr. H. G.
Stanley, and other members, of your staff.
Areas examined during the inspection are important to public health and safety and included
plant operations, radiological controls, engineering, maintenance,
and surveillance for both
units.
Within these areas,
the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures
and records, interviews with personnel,
and observation of activities in progress.
The
purpose of the inspection was to determine whether NRC licensed activities were being
conducted safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Based on the results of this
inspection, it appears that your staff conducted licensed activities in a safe manner during this
period.
Your staff's identification and corrective action relative to fire door operability determinations
was considered
a strength.
Your cooperation with us in this matter is appreciated.
