RESPONSE TO NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTES LETTER REGARDING REGULATORY ISSUE RESOLUTION PROTOCOL SCREENING FORM AND RESOLUTION PLAN FOR IMPROVING THE PART 72 REGULATORY FRAMEWORK (RIRP-I-16-01)
Dear Mr. McCullum:
I am responding to your letter dated May 12, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML17138A119), and attachments, in which the Nuclear Energy Institute provided revisions to the draft Regulatory Issue Resolution Protocol (RIP-I-16-01).
The staff find the proposed approach to establish the selection criteria for determining what information should be included in a certificate of compliance as presented in attachment 3, to your May 12, 2017, letter to be consistent with discussions and expectations communicated during the March 24, 2017, meeting. Additional clarifications to the selection criteria are anticipated to occur during and following implementation of the pilot amendment effort.
The staff look forward to previewing the proposed amendment format and content in a public meeting during the week of June 12, 2017. We expect to receive the pilot amendment on June 30, 2017.
