Attached is a copy of the staff's evaluation of the GE topical report, "Technical Bases for the Use of the Square-Root-of-the-Sum-of-Squares (SRSS)
Method for Combining Dynamic Loads for Mark II Plants",
NEDE-24010-P and Supplements 1 through 3.
This evaluation concludes that the SRSS method is acceptable for the design and assessment of mechanical
- systems, components, and supports for Nark II plant=subject to certain constraints related to the seismic loading level and the containment structure.
The staff positions included in this evaluation report extend beyond those in our previous report "Methodology for combining Dynamics Response",
NUREG-0484 and Supplement 1 to that report.
The primary purpose of this evaluation report is to address the acceptability of SRSS based on NEDE-24010-P without additional justification for Mark II plants.
The staff is continuing its work on response combination methodology beyond that addressed in NUREG-0484, Supplement 1 to NUREG-0484 and, this evaluation report.
Phase 2B of Task Action Plan B-6 will investigate the validity of several proposed "loading level" criteria.
