Subject:

Request for Extension of Public Comment Period on NUREG/BR-0058; 82 FR 18163; Docket ID NRC-20,17-0091 Project Number: 689

Dear Ms. Bladey:

On behalf of the nuclear energy industry, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 1 appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on the subject NUREG/BR-0058, Revision 5, "Regulatory Analysis Guidelines of the U.S.

NRC." Per the referenced Federal Register announcement, we understand that the NRC requests comments by June 16, 2017. Due to the extent of changes presented in Revision 5 and the level of effort required to give these changes the quality of review necessary, we respectfully request that the NRC extend the public comment period for an additional 60 days. By our calculation, this would extend the due date to August 15, 2017.

We appreciate the NRC staff's consideration of this request. If you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact me.

Sincerely, James E. Slider 1
