- Docket Nos.:

50-387 and 50-388 UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 March 14, 1984 APPLICANT:

Pennsylvania Power 8 Light Company (PP8L)

FACILITY:

SUBJECT:

Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD WITH PP5L AT BETHESDA, MD.

ON FEBRUARY 22, 1984 REGARDING PROPOSED CHANGES TO SUSQUEHANNA STANDBY GAS TREATMENT SYSTEM, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS On February 22, 1984, representatives of Pennsylvania Power 8 Light Company i met with the NRC Staff to discuss the proposed changes to the Standby Gas Treatment System (SGTS) technical specification described in PP&L letters dated December 19, 1983, January 5,

1984 and January 21, 1984.

A list of attendees is provided in Attachment l.

Initial discussions with the licensee covered the SGTS configuration and its relationship to the ventilation systems.

Attachment 2 was presented by the licensee as.part of this discussion under which the various surveillance alternatives would be performed to verify secondary containment in-leakage.

The licensee also indicated that the three zone test would not be performed with either reactor operating due to expected temperature rise in the area of the operating reactor(s) due to the length of time needed to perform the test and the SGTS provides no cooling capacity to the operating regions.

The staff requested the licensee provide additional clarification as to when the alternative surveillance requirements would be performed.

In addi tion, the staff requested that the three zone test (Zone I, Zone II, and Zone III) be performed at least every 5 years.

The licensee agreed to these items and formally provided these modifications in a revision to the proposed SGTS technical specification changes in a letter dated February 23, 1984.
