SUBJECT:
John J. Stefano, Project Manager Licensing Branch Ho.
1 Division of Licensing DOCUMENTATION OF CONFERENCE CALL HITH PENNSYLVANIA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY (PP&L)
- SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATIOH (SSES)
The conference call was held on October 18, 1982, during which PP&L advised NRC and Teledyne of progress.-made in reconciling concerns raised by the Teledyne's Independent Design Review of PP8L's engineering judgements for concluding the acceptability of the plant's large pipe hangers to Code allowable stresses.
Those participating in the conference call were:
PP&L N. Curtis T. Crimmins R. Shovlin W. Barberich Teledyne D. Landers NRC T. Novak J. Youngblood T. Sullivan D. Terao J. Stefano (substituting for PM - R. Perch)
In sutanary, PP&L indicated that it had completed categorizing 395 sample hangers out of 493.
Of the 395 categorized, 311 sample hangers have been found accept-able by PP8L; 57 Category III hangers are being reanalyzed by Bechtel with the review of 17 of them found to be acceptable.
Reanalysis of the remaining 40 Category II samples is to be completed by October 19, 1982.
PP&L is committed to complete its'tudy of 500 hangers (selected for its Reconciliation Sampling Program) but indicated that it believes 395 samples should be adequate for obtaining a satisfactory response from HRC to its October 14, 1982 request, to go to 3M power.
PP&L further stated that it is currently prepared to provide Teledyne with whatever information is needed for its confirmatory acceptance of the PP&L/Bechtel re-examination findings.
Finally, PP&L updated its schedule for plant startup and attainment of 5% power, which will occur on October 21 and 27, respectively.
