gp g 4.198K Docket No.:
50-387 APPLICANT:
Pennsylvania Power
& Light Company FACILITY:
Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Unit 1
SUBJECT:
SUHi~lARY'OF SEPTEMBER 9, 1982 MEETING ON THE HATURAL GAS PIPELINE l'JEAR THE SUSgUEHAfIHA SITE On September 9, 1982, representatives of Pennsylvania Power
& Light Company (PP&L) and their consultants met with members of the HRC staff to present new information regarding the configuration of the gas pipeline near the Susquehanna site.
A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.
PP&L informed the HRC staff that analysis has shown that the flowmeter orifice
- plates, referred to in license condition 13 of the Susquehanna operating license, would likely fail under the high differential pressure associated with a line rupture.
PP&L did claim that flow-and pressure-regulating valves also present in the line, when suitably modified, would constitute passive flow restrictor s and limit the flow to acceptable low levels.
PP&L provided documentation of their presentation in a letter to the HRC staff dated September 9, 1982.
The HRC staff, while agreeing in principle >>ith the PP&L proposal, will continue to conduct a more detailed review.
