OF JULY 12,
- 1982, SENIOR HANAGEMEHT SITE VISIT AT SUSQUEHANNA STEAtl ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 1 On July 12, 1982, representatives of the NRC staff met with the applicant to discuss the status of Susquehanna, Unit 1 with regard to readiness for fuel loading and low power testing.
The meeting was held at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.
A list of attendees is provided fn Enclosure 1.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide for senior HRC management review of the application prior to issuance of a low-power license.
The meeting began with a tour. of the training center followed by a general tour of the facility.
One concern expressed by the staff was the noise level fn the control room due to multiple communication networks in use.
PPSL addressed this issue to the staff in a letter dated July 16, 1982.
Following the plant tour the applicant made presentations fn a number of areas:
Management Organization PP8L's Nuclear Department Organization currently has about 800 personnel and a projected level of approximately 1100 personnel for two unft operations.
Current staffing at the site is above the needs for one unit operation but below the needs for two units.
Readiness and Training The Susquehanna Review Committee, which does the off-site revfew, currently consists of key managers in PPBL departments.
PPSL intends to add one outside consultant to this committee but no selection has been made.
An assessment of plant readiness was made by line management, the Nuclear Safety Assessment Group and Quality Assurance fn February
- 1982, and a report was issued.

DATE I7 In the area of operator licensing, PP8L stated that approximately 20 personnel have completed all operator examinations and walkthroughs for which they have not received the final results.
The NRC staff subsequently followed up on this item and provided the results to PPBL.

Pennsylvania Power
& Light Company Revisions to D namic Analyses During the engineering turnover process between Bechtel and PP&L, ar ithematic errors and analyst judgment errors were noted in the horizontal dynamic model.
The reactor/control structure was reviewed and both the East-Hest and Nor th-South models were rerun.
PP&L' evaluation on the revised analyses was that no system or equipment changes are needed.
This item is the subject of a meeting between PP8L and the NRC staff on July 13, 1982.
Status of Resident Inspector Items.
Ninety-six items remain outstanding at the time of this meeting.
Of these 57 items remain to be closed out prior to fuel load.
PP&L anticipants these items will be completed prior to July 17, 1982.
Of the remaining
- items, 23 are to be closed out prior to initial criticality and the other 16 at later dates.
