Docket Nos.
5P-387/388.'ee next page APPLICANT:
Pennsylvania Power 8 Light Company 9
FACILITY:
Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2
SUBJECT:
SUNNRY OF APRIL 12, 1982, GAS PIPELINE MEETING
,e", g" qQ
,(;p-'2 On April 12, 1982, representatives of the Pennsylvania Power 5 Ught Company met with members of the NRC staff to present information and a
proposed solution to the gas pipeline issue.
A list of attendees fs provided fn Atta'"hment l.
I The applicant presented information fn the form of profile drawings for doub'le-ended p'ipeline
. breaks at various elevatfons with respect to plant topography (see attachment 2).
In this presentation, the applicant indicated that the afr intake structures affected by the plume rise would be limited to the control room and reactor building afr intakes.
The applicant then proposed the, installation of a passive f low limiter near the pfyelfne junction at Route ll to limit the total steady state flow from
.a postulated double-ended pipe break.
The passive flow limiter would;,be.
sized to limit the gas flow from a break such that the gas plume fn the vicinity of the affected afr intake structur es auld be below the lower flammability limit.
The applicant stated that the gas company was amenable to the installation of the passive flow limiter.
The NRC staff agreed fn principle to this approach subject to confirmation of calculations and information on this proposal being formally submitted by the applicant.
A copy of the letter of agreement with the gas company with regard to the installation of the passive flow limiter fs also to be provided to the NRC staff by the applicant.
