Dear Governor Thornburgh:

-- Section 14(a) of Public Law 95-601, the HRC Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1.979, requires that we notify the Governor and the State Legislature whenever we have knowledge that a (major) radioactive waste storage or disposal facility is proposed to be developed in a State.

Therefore, I

wish to inform you that the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company has met with the Huclear Regulatory Commission (HRC) to describe plans to provide for interim on site storage of low-level waste at its Susquehanna Steam Electric Station near Berwick.

A copy of the meeting-summary is enclosed.

Ho application seeking approval of the proposal has yet been submitted to the HRC.
