. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION BEFORE THE ATOMIC SAFETY AND LICENSING BOARD

/ /(gf In the Matter of PENNSYLVANIA POWER AND LIGHT CO.

ALLEGHENY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC.

(Susquehanna Steam Electric Station,

)

Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos.

50-387 50-388 NRC STAFF MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FILE

'NSWERS TO AMENDED PETITIONS'FOR'LEAVE TO INTERVENE On December 14,

.1978 this Licensing Board in its Order Schedulin

-S ecial Prehearin Conference provided that petitioners for leave to intervene may amend or supplement their previously filed petitions by no later than Monday, January 15, 1979 and that Applicant and Staff answers to any such amendments or supplements must be in the Board's hands by Friday, January 26, 1979.

To date petitioner, Citizens Against Nuclear Dangers (CAND), has made three filings which though not so denominated could be construed as supplements to its petition for leave to intervene.

The Staff has no knowledge of whether ther e will be additional filings by CAND and/or other-petitioners.

The CAND filings were dated December 28, December 29 and January 3.

10 CFR 2.714 provides that the Staff may file an answer within 15 days after the petition is filed.

However, since the Licensing Board has set January 26 as a deadline for receipt of Staff and Applicant answers to supplemented petitions, the Staff requests leave to file a single answer to the supplemented petitions of each petitioner (one answer per petitioner) by the January 26 deadline rather than multiple answers by several different deadlines.

The Appli-cant has no objection to the grant of this request and desires the same privilege.

Respectfully submitted Qames M. Cutchin, IV Counsel for NRC Staff Dated at Bethesda, Maryland this 11th day of January, 1979
