Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant MEETING ON DECEMBER 10-12, 1986 - SOIL STRUCTURE INTERACTION EFFORT FOR LONG TERM SEISMIC PROGRAM (LTSP)
NRC staff and its consultants met with PGIIE on December 10-12, 1986 to discuss the status of and future plans for the PGImE soil structure interaction (SSI) studies.
The meeting notice and list of meeting attendees are included as Enclosures I and 2, respectively.
The staff's detailed comments on the meeting are included as Enclosure 3.
Comments by the staff's consultants will be provided later.
The agenda and viewgraphs for the meeting had been provided by PGIIE and are included as Enclosure 4.
At the conclusion of the meeting staff requested the license to provide the following information:
(I)
A list of key parameters (e.g.
base
- shears, base spectra) for which the deterministic results obtained from the SSI studies will be compared with the design parameters to ascertain overall plant responses.
(2)
The rationale for selecting these parameters and appropriate levels of comparisons (e.g. fifty percentile, eighty-four percentile responses).
(3)
Information about the containment and the internal structure simplified models used in the studies.
(4)
The time-history input used by the licensee.
(5)
Some additional references on spatial-incoherency studies.
The licensee has since provided the staff with the information requested in items 3, 4 and 5 above which is listed in Enclosure 5 (the information is not included in this summary, it has been placed in the NRC and Diablo Canyon Local PDR).
This information will enable the staff to preform independent studies.

Based on the presentations by the licensee and the ensueing discussions at the meeting the staff concludes that substantive progress has been made since the initial meeting on the subject in April 1986.
The staff finds that the program for future studies is well thought out.
