TO TRANSFER OF LEAD RESPONSIBILITY-DIABLO CANYON MAIN STEAMLINE CHECK VALVES (TAC NO. 63470)
On November 6, 1987, Region V requested NRR's assistance in reviewing a
degraded condition found on Diablo Canyon Unit 1 check valves wherein the nuts which hold the disks to the swing arms were missing or loose.
Region V
requested NRR to determine if continued operation of Unit 2 was warranted in light of the conditions found on Unit 1.
This question was answered orally in discussions with your staff in November 1986.
The enclosure to this memorandum documents our acceptance of PGSE's justification for the continued operation of Unit 2 until its first refueling
- outage, and completes NRR action on your request.
