APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Pacific Gas and Electric Company Diablo Canyon Power Plant - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-323 License No.

DPR-82 During an NRC inspection conducted on May 18-22,

1987, a violation of NRC requirements was identified.

In accordance with the "General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C

(1987), the violati on is listed below:

10 CFR 20.203(c)(1),

"Caution signs,

labels, signals and controls,"

requires that each high radiation area be conspicuously posted with a sign or signs bearing the radiation caution symbol and the words:

"Caution - High Radiation Area.!'

"High Radiation Area" is defined in 10 CFR 20.202(b)(3),

"Personnel Monitoring," as any area, accessible to personnel, in which there exists radiation originating in whole or in part within licensed material at such levels that a major portion of the body could receive in any one hour a dose in excess of'00 millirems.

Contrary to the above, on May 19, 1987, in Unit 2, the personnel access on the 115 ft level leading to the bottom of the pressurizer where whole body dose rates ranged from 110 to 120 mrem/hr was not conspicuously posted as a high radiation area.

This is a Severity Level V Violation (Supplement IV).

In view of the immediate corrective action taken during the inspection which was verified by the inspector prior to leaving the site, no response to this Notice is required.
