In accordance with NRC procedure for board notification the following information is being transmitted directly to the Commission.

The staff has recently recei'ved allegations concerning several safety deficiencies at the Diablo Canyon project, The stated concerns relate to:

a.

design aspects of the component cooling water system, including its seismic classification, single failure considerations and its heat removal capabilities, and b.

various other considerations including ISC design/

classifications approaches.,

design approaches used for seismic Class I'nd Class II interfaces, and the seismic desi'gn of diesel generator intakes and exhausts.

The alleger has expressly requested and was assured of anonymi'ty to the extent permitted by law.

Review of the allegations by NRR, Region V and IE has, commenced on the basis of detailed informati'on provided by the alleger, The allegations have potential bearing on the currently ongoing verification efforts of both PG8E/Bechtel and the Independent Design Verification Program.
