William J. Dircks Executive Director for Operations STATUS OF DIABLO CANYON, UNIT 1 DESIGN VERIFICATION PROGRAM The following updates the status report forwarded to you on July 5, 1983.

1.

Su 1ement to the Safet Evaluation Re ort On August 5, 1983, the staff issued its Supplement No. 18 to the Safety Evaluation Report.

This supplement provides the results of the staff's review of the verification effort and recommends reinstatement of the suspended license.

2.

IDVP Final Re ort Additional instal'Iments have been received since the July 5 report and are undergoing review.

3.

Interim Technical Re orts The July 6 s'tatus report advised that additional Interim Technical Reports were expected.

We have received four Interim Reports since issuance of the last status report.

On August 10, 1983, Pacific Gas and Electric Company submitted a summary of actions taken or planned to be taken to ensure that Diablo Canyon, Unit 1 is ready for fuel loading and low power testing.

The staff will consider the above submittals in the final verification of matters and modifications in the plant which are required and remain to be completed for the license activities to be authorized.
