SUBJECT:
SUtMRY OF MEETING WITH PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COHPANY-DIABLO CANYON AUXILIARYFEEDWATER SYSTEM RELIABILITY On July 25, 1980, representatives of the NRC staff met with representatives of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in.Bethesda, h'laryland, to review'G&E's study of the Diablo Canyon, Units 1 and 2 auxiliary feedwater system (AFt<S) reliability.
A list of the attendees is attached (Attachment 1).
The meeting was requested by PG&E to discuss with the NRC staff their consultant's r'eport on Diablo Canyon AFWS reliability.
This study was per-formed in response to Tasks II.E.l,l-and II.E.1.2 of NUREG-0694 and NUREG-0660.
In accordance with NUREG-0660, the NRR will require all PWR operating license applicants to (1) evaluate AFWS reliability; (2) provide a deterministic AFWS evaluation; and (3) provide AFWS flow design basis information for NRR review.
PG&E presented vu-graphs on Diablo Canyon ARJS reliability study performed by their consultant Pjdkard, Lowe and Garrick, Inc. in accordance with NUREG-0611.
A copy of the vu-graphs is attached (Attachment 2).
PG&E stated that their criteria were based on a small LOCA (i.e., feeding only one steam generator utilizing only one pump).
They also indicated that the study shows their system is high'ly reliable.
After some discussion of the reliability and the deterministic evaluation of the AFllS, the NRC staff indicated that they will review PG&E's reliability study and their April 8, 1980 submittal in response to the November 30.
1979 meeting held in Bethesda, maryland on AFWS and the NRC letter to PG&E dated i)arch 10, 1980.
The flow initiation and indication were also discussed as stated in the meeting sumary from R. Kendall, to R. N. Satterfield (Attachment 3).
