[External_Sender] RE: Vogtle Unit 1 SG ISI RAIs - fall 2015 (MF7594)
Bob, The SNC responses are given below.
RAI #1
- 1.
Page 4 of the report mentions possible loose part (PLP) and foreign object wear (PCT) indications in Table 1, but there are no PCT indications listed in Table 1. It appears that the PCT indications were placed in Table 2. Please confirm that there are no PCT indications that should have been included in Table 1.
SNC Response to RAI #1 PCT indications are in Table 2. There are no PCT indications that should have been included in Table 1.
RAI #2
- 2.
Please discuss any non-structurally significant anomalies observed during the inspection of the upper internals in SG4. Also, please discuss the feedring inspection results in SG4.
SNC Response to RAI #2 Vogtle completed inspection of the SG4 upper internals, which resulted in no observed conditions that presented a concern to the continued operation of these components or the integrity of the SG tubing. Some areas of minor feedring piping base material wall thinning were identified through UT wall thickness measurements. All of these wall thickness measurements are well above the feedwater ring stress analysis minimum wall requirement and are not a concern for continued operation. Vogtle also inspected a sample of the J-nozzles from the inner diameter of the feedring with a remote camera probe to assess the condition of the joint with the feedring base metal. J-nozzle inspection showed no significant degradation at the nozzle-to-feedring pipe joint. A relatively even coating of surface magnetite was found throughout the Vogtle Unit 1 inspections of SG4 upper internals indicating a lack of ongoing widespread degradation. All observations discussed above are non-structurally significant and are not a concern for continued operation. Vogtle will continue to measure and trend SG upper internals components and materials for planning of future inspections.

Vogtle Unit 1 SG ISI RAIs - fall 2015 (MF7594)
- Bob,
2 Ken and I have reviewed the 180-report from the fall 2015 outage for Vogtle Unit 1.
We have a couple clarifying questions wed like you to forward to the licensee.
If the licensee would like to discuss the answers over a phone call we are happy to support that, but were fine with an email response as well.
We will document their response in our final report review.
Clarifying Questions:
- 2. Please discuss any non-structurally significant anomalies observed during the inspection of the upper internals in SG4. Also, please discuss the feedring inspection results in SG4.
