UPDATE - SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 72 HOURS DUE TO NATURAL PHENOMENA (HURRICANE MATTHEW)

On October 6, 2016, St. Lucie Nuclear Station, Unit 2, completed a controlled shutdown to Mode 4 using the normal shutdown procedure. The shutdown was performed as part of the licensees emergency plan requirements for response to Hurricane Matthew. St. Lucie, Unit 1, was in Mode 6 conducting refueling operations with the refueling cavity flooded. The licensee suspended all outage activities to complete storm preparations.

Hurricane Matthew passed east of St. Lucie early Friday morning. Maximum sustained winds at the site were just below hurricane strength. The site did not experience any flooding or damage from the storm and offsite power remained available. The licensee exited the Notice of Unusual Event at 1044 hours0.0121 days <br />0.29 hours <br />0.00173 weeks <br />3.97242e-4 months <br /> on October 7, 2016, after the Hurricane Warning was lifted from the St.

Lucie area.

The Agency secured from Monitoring Mode at 1337 hours0.0155 days <br />0.371 hours <br />0.00221 weeks <br />5.087285e-4 months <br /> on October 7, 2016.

Resident inspectors are closely monitoring the licensees activities.

The State of Florida has been informed.
