SUBJECT:

Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-346, License No. NPF-3 Test Results of Reactor Vessel Surveillance Capsule TE1-C By letter dated March 17, 2000 (ADAMS ML003693967), the Babcock & Wilcox Owners Group Reactor Vessel Working Group informed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff of its plans to begin disposal of all Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) plant-specific and intact B&W supplemental capsules. Specifically, the letter stated that the existing B&W plant-specific standby capsules either did not contain weld materials or were not expected to contribute significantly to the Linde 80-weld metal surveillance database.

Furthermore, the plant-specific surveillance capsules, which did not contain weld material, did not need to be tested. These plant-specific capsules were not expected to contribute significantly to the weld metal surveillance database. Two Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station (DBNPS) specific capsules, TE1-C and TE1-E, which were in storage, were part of the disposal plan.

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted an application for a renewed license for DBNPS on August 1O~ 2010. As a result of license renewal activities, FENOC contracted with AREVA to conduct an analysis of the DBNPS plant-specific capsule TE1-C. The DBNPS renewed operating license was received on December 8, 2015. The enclosed AREVA report: ANP-3339, Revision 2, "Davis-Besse Unit 1 Reactor Vessel Material Surveillance Program: Analysis of Capsule TE1-C,"

provides the results of the examination. The results will be used to support the revision of the DBNPS pressure/temperature operating limits to 52 effective full power years.
