Rick, Thanks for speaking with me earlier today regarding Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3 (WF3) and essential fish habitat (EFH). For both of our records, I am sending a brief email documenting that the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) anticipates no adverse impacts to EFH resulting from the proposed WF3 license renewal.

WF3 is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The plant draws water from the Mississippi River for cooling at River Mile 129.6. No EFH exists within the immediate project area. Although some EFH prey species may occur in the Mississippi River near WF3, the impingement and entrainment rates of such prey species would not be high enough to measurably affect EFH or Federally managed species where they occur in the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding tidally influenced intermediate marshes. I have come to this determination based on reviewing the EFH Generic Amendments(1) to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Plans and associated Environmental Impact Statement(2) as well as life history information for Gulf of Mexico federally managed species.
