Dear Ms. Grinnell,

Ms. Angela Buford forwarded me your email dated July 7, 2016, and I am writing to acknowledge its receipt. Your email has been entered into ADAMS and will become a public document (ML16193A376) shortly. Once public, your incoming email can be located by searching for ML16193A376 at the following internet address: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

We appreciate your questions. My initial review indicates that you excerpted information from page 5 of 6 of a report (ML15337A047) that was issued to document an audit conducted by the named NRC staff at the Ferguson Structural Engineering Laboratory (FSEL) at the University of Texas at Austin. As the report states, this audit was conducted between October 27 and 29, 2015. The audit was performed in support of the NRC staffs ongoing review of the Seabrook license renewal application (LRA). The purpose of the audit was for the NRC staff to gain a clear understanding of NextEras large-scale test program at FSEL and how information from the test program may be used to support NextEras development of an Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR)

Monitoring Aging Management Program (AMP). This AMP must be submitted in support of Seabrooks LRA that is under NRC staff review in accordance with (10 CFR Part 54). We will keep this information in mind as we draft our response to your below questions.

NRC Region I staff will coordinate with staff in the NRCs Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) and we will respond when we are able and likely at the same time that we respond to your previous email (ML16180A212) to Mr. Mel Gray that are more closely related to our regulations in 10 CFR Part 50. In addition to responding to you directly, we plan to file our response to you in ADAMS and make it publically available.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

Sincerely, Fred Bower Chief l Projects Branch 3 l Division of Reactor Projects l Region I l U.S. NRC l l 2100 Renaissance Boulevard, STE 100, King of Prussia, PA 19406 l l : (610) 337-5200 l : Fred.Bower@nrc.gov l
