5 NRC Inspections of Seabrook Structures Affected by ASR

  • NRC specialist inspections completed every six months
  • NRC issued a violation in 2016 for not evaluating ASR effects of bulk deformation in Containment Enclosure Building and Underground Equipment Vault Wall Cracks
  • Violation of very low safety significance because structural capability was maintained
  • Written response required due to repetitiveness
  • NRC will complete inspection to assess effectiveness of actions to prevent recurrence

6 License Renewal Status Update Need reasonable assurance that ASR aging effects can be adequately managed License renewal safety review is ongoing; regulatory decision on the application has not been finalized Remaining schedule milestones, including 2nd ACRS Subcommittee meeting, are to be determined

7 License Renewal Status Update NextEra submitted latest ASR Monitoring Aging Management Program (AMP) on Dec 3, 2015 ASR continues to be an Open Item, primarily due to building deformation and macro-cracking manifestations Public meeting with NextEra at NRC HQ on April 28, 2016, discussed ASR open issues NextEra intends to submit a revised ASR Monitoring AMP in August 2016

8 ASR License Amendment Request Pre-application public meeting with NextEra held June 15, 2016.

NextEra stated it intends to submit an ASR license amendment request (LAR) in July 2016.

The LAR will request to revise Seabrooks design basis Texas test data is intended to demonstrate that American Concrete Institute code acceptance criteria are met (within limits)f or ASR-affected structures.
