March 11, 2016 The Honorable Barbara Boxer Ranking Member, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Boxer:
When we met in May 2015, I committed to keep you informed about the status of Diablo Canyons compliance with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission actions based on the lessons learned from the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan. In a September 9, 2015, letter, I provided you with a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E)
August 2015 status report on Diablo Canyons implementation of the Commission Order for Mitigation Strategies for Beyond-Design-Basis External Events. To keep you informed of the latest actions at Diablo Canyon, I am enclosing PG&Es most recent status report on implementation of the Mitigation Strategies Order. PG&E has completed implementation of the order for Diablo Canyon Unit 1 and will complete implementation for Unit 2 by May 31, 2016.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please feel free to contact Eugene Dacus, Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs, at (301) 415-1776.
Sincerely,
/RA/
Stephen G. Burns
