SUBJECT:
ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REVIEW OF THE GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION - TRANSMITTAL OF FINAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT By letter dated October 28, 2011, Entergy Operations Inc. (or the applicant), submitted a license renewal application (LRA) in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). The applicant requested renewal of the operating license (operating license NPF-29) for a period of 20 years beyond the current expiration at midnight on November 1, 2024.
The staff has completed its review of the applicants LRA and issued the Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16090A252), on March 30, 2016. We request that the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) review this safety evaluation for the GGNS LRA. The GGNS LRA is currently scheduled for review by the ACRS Subcommittee on May 4, 2016.
The required copies of the pertinent document have been delivered to your staff. Additional supporting documents are publicly available: the Scoping and Screening Methodology Audit Report Regarding the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1, License Renewal Application (TAC No. ME7493) (ADAMS Accession No. ML12165A387), the Aging Management Programs Audit Report Regarding the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (TAC No. ME7493) (ADAMS Accession No. ML12137A290), and the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station - NRC License Renewal Inspection Report 05000416/2012007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML12268A365).
