March 07, 2016 Mr. David R. Kline, Security Director Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F St., NW, Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20004-1218

SUBJECT:

DISCONTINUING SUPPORT OF THE INTEGRATED RESPONSE COMPUTER-AIDED PLANNING TOOL INITIATIVE

Dear Mr. Kline:

As part of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) ongoing assessment of work priorities, the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR), in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has decided to discontinue its support of computer-aided planning tool development by September 30, 2016. NSIR staff will continue to support the construction and delivery of computer-aided planning tools currently under development.

In addition, NSIR is working with FBI to identify an alternative approach that sites without computer-aided planning tools can use to provide relevant information to law enforcement.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 287-3612.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Doug Huyck, Chief Reactor Security Branch Division of Security Policy Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response
