SUBJECT:

Request for Exemptions under 10CFR3 0.11 for Alternate Disposal of Wastes from Vermont Yankee Nuclear Plant under 10CFR20.2002

Dear Sirs:

Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (ENO) submitted a request for an Alternate Disposal Authorization under 10CFR20.2002 to which US Ecology Idaho (USEI) is a party (Document# I3VY 16-001, dated January 14, 2016). The Alternate Disposal submission is for approximately 26,000 cubic feet (ft 3 ) (200,000 gallons) of low-activity waste water containing byproduct material from activities associated with preparing for long term dormancy as part of the decommissioning process at Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in Vernon, VT (Docket No. 50-271, License No. DPR-2 8). The Alternate Disposal would occur at US Ecology Idaho, a RCRA Subtitle C hazardous and low-activity radioactive waste treatment and disposal facility located near Grand View, ID. US Ecology and ENO have collaborated on the preparation and submittal of the Alternate Disposal Request and supporting documents.

Pursuant to final NRC approval of the above referenced submittal, US Ecology requests an exemption from the licensing requirements published in 10CFR3 0.3 for our Grand View, ID facility to allow for disposal of these wastes.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss this request further, I can be reached at (208) 319-1634 or joe.weismann@usecology.com.
