THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION RESPONSE TO THE REQUEST FOR ENDORSEMENT OF NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTE WHITE PAPER REGARDING SECURITY COPING TIME, DATED DECEMBER 2015
Dear Mr. Speer:
We are writing to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated December 17, 2015. In your letter, you requested that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff endorse the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) white paper related to security coping time. You also requested that the NRC staff incorporate the proposed actions into the next revision of appropriate guidance documents, including Regulatory Guide 5.81, Target Set Identification and Development for Nuclear Power Reactors.
The NRC staff will conduct a preliminary review of the NEI white paper on Security Coping Time to determine if the document contains sufficient information to justify the expenditure of resources for a detailed evaluation. We will provide you with a response within 30 days from the date of this letter to notify you of the results of our preliminary review and provide a schedule for our detailed review if we determine one is supported.
