Ernest Wright (Medical Radioisotope Production Facility)

Commission Mandatory Hearing Project Associate - Radwaste Docket #: 05000608 Sargent & Lundy, LLC Exhibit #: SHN-024-MA-CM01 Identified: 12/15/2015 Admitted: 12/15/2015 Withdrawn:

Rejected: Stricken:

Education: Other:

M.S. Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering, University of Illinois B.S. Electrical Engineering, University of Illinois Professional Certifications/Registrations:

Professional Engineer, State of Illinois Mr. Wright has over 40 years of experience in design, evaluation and testing of radiological waste systems.

  • Mr. Wright directed the on-site chemical and mechanical engineers during the final construction phase and startup of a water treatment facility for the PUREX process at the DOEs Hanford facility. He coordinated the civil, structural, mechanical and electrical design and construction of a solid waste treatment facility for the Quad Cities nuclear power station. HVAC system operation and air borne contamination control were paramount.
  • Worked in the Seoul offices of Korea Electric Power Company for 18 months.

Responsible for the design and specifications of systems to collect and volume reduce liquid and solid wastes from a commercial nuclear power plant. The project was completed on time and within budget while achieving a 100% reduction in waste compared to earlier Korean power plants.

  • Supervised the preparation of a conceptual design report that was issued to the Department of Energy and described the design and construction of a hazardous waste processing building and a TRU storage building at Argonne National Laboratory.
  • Provided a conceptual design and later a detailed design of a multi-million dollar system generator blowdown purification system for the Zion Nuclear plant.
  • Designed a mixing and transport system for ion exchange resin and high density tank sludges at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station.
  • Collaborated with the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute to demonstrate a radio frequency volume reduction process for waste sludges and slurries from nuclear plants.
