LOT 20 NRC EXAM ANALYSIS - 9/24/2015 Bank # RO# SRO# ANSWER A B C D Total Missed 2391 88 A 1 3 4 1727 89 B 0 1636 90 D 0 2424 91 C 1 1 2434 92 B 1 1 2 2425 93 A 4 4 2431 94 A 1 1 2426 95 C 1 1 2 2432 96 A 3 3 2427 97 D 1 1 2 2433 98 D 3 2 5 2428 99 C 0 413 100 A 1 1 RO #20 - 1 candidate chose distracter D; (correct answer is B).

This question was only missed by one student, however, its being added to this list because two students asked about the position of the SSPS MRDS Switch during the exam.

Question is based on the knowledge of Fuel Handling procedures and radiation monitor response to a Fuel Handling accident.

While investigating the students question during the exam it could not be explicitly determined if the student needed to know about the MRDS switch. It was decided to tell the students to read the question as stated. There was some thought given during the exam to change the correct answer to D because of steps in the Containment Purge procedures. However, further investigation of the question after the exam revealed the following:

  • Depending on how you arrive at the situation, the MRDS switch could be in either DEFEAT ALL or DEFEAT/CVI AVAIL. 0POP03-ZG-0007 gives the option to place the MRDS switch in either position.
  • Placing containment purge in service in modes 5, 6, and defueled specifically require placing the MRDS switch to DEFEAT ALL per the normal operating procedures.

However, if containment purge had been placed in service in mode 4, there is no specific requirement to go back and place MRDS to DEFEAT ALL.

Since the intent of the question was that CVI is normally available under the given conditions and that the vast majority of the students answered the question that way, no changes to the question will be made.

For future use of the question the question stem will be revised for clarification, however, no changes are being made to the LOT 20 NRC Exam.
