SUBJECT:
CLOSURE OF BULLETIN 89-01 ON ALL DUKE STATIONS (TACS 73179, 73180, 73183, 73184, 73185, 73157, 73158)
By letter of June 20, 1989, Duke replied to NRC Bulletin 89-01 "Failure of Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mechanical Plugs" for each of its seven nuclear stations.
The reply indicates that no Duke plant has mechanical plugs from the suspect heat numbers. While Duke has no plans to remove any Westinghouse mechanical plugs from service, should future evaluation indicate susceptibility to failure, plug repair would likely be by "plug-in-a-plug" technique, and any future Duke data would be provided to the Westinghouse data base.
We find that this response satisfies the actions required by Bulletin 89-01, and that the subject TACS can be closed.
