SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE FERMI 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION
Dear Mr. Kaminskas:
By letter dated April 24, 2014, DTE Electric Company (DTE) submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, to renew the operating license NPF-43 for Fermi 2, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This letter is to inform you of a change in the environmental review schedule for the Fermi 2 license renewal review.
The original license renewal schedule was developed assuming only one round of Severe Accident Mitigation Alternative (SAMA) analyses request for additional information (RAI). To date, there have been three rounds of RAIs sent to DTE by NRC staff by letters dated November 18, 2014 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML14308A358), February 3, 2015 (ML15026A307), and April 9, 2015 (ML15092A945). DTEs response to the first SAMA RAI is dated January 9, 2015 (ML15009A358), the second SAMA RAI is dated March 5, 2015 (ML15064A099), and the third SAMA RAI is dated May 8, 2015 (ML15141A163).
Issuing the two additional SAMA RAIs has resulted in a delay in NRC staff completing the SAMA review. As a result of this delay, there is a corresponding delay in publishing the draft and final supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS). The new dates for the environmental review milestones are on the Fermi 2 License Renewal Application Review Schedule which is enclosed with this letter.
Enclosed is the NRC staff's revised review schedule for the Fermi 2 license renewal application.
