SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF BYRON NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, AND BRAIDWOOD NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MF1879,MF1880,MF1881,MF1882)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

By letter dated May 29, 2013, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (the applicant), submitted a license renewal application (LRA) pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54,Requirement for Renewal of Operating License for Nuclear Power Plant. To renew operating licenses NPF-37, NPF-66, NPF-72, and NPF-77 for Byron Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, respectively, for review by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff). The staff determined that the LRA was complete and acceptable for docketing on July 24, 2013.

Since that time, the staff has reviewed the Byron Station and Braidwood Station (BBS) LRA, performed site audits and inspections, issued requests for additional information (RAIs),

reviewed the applicants responses to the staffs RAIs, developed a safety evaluation report (SER) with open items dated October 30, 2014, and subsequently met with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee on December 3, 2014.

The staff has closed the open items and has developed the enclosed SER (ADAMS Accession No. ML15182A051) to document its findings associated with the safety review of the LRA and supporting documentation for BBS.

M. Gallagher This SER is scheduled to be discussed with the ACRS Full Committee on September 10, 2015.
