- PILGRIM Emergency Class "PNPS workers observed an endangered (one) whale off the waters of PNPS. There was a confirmed sighting of a single North Atlantic right whale (balaena glacialis). This was reported to National Marine Fisheries Service by members Whale & Dolphin Conservation (WDC) lAW PNPS procedures.
Background:
As a result of a mandated environmental review that occurred for PNPS's license extension, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) requested that the US NRC require the plant to report any observations of "listed" (i.e., endangered or threatened) whale species to NMFS within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />.
"This report is made lAW 10 CFR 72(b)(2)(xi)."
The Licensee notified NRC Resident Inspector, the State MEMA and the Town of Plymouth.
Notified R2DO (Gray) and Endangered Species group via email.
