j Document: NRC-2015-0004-DRAFT-0037 Comment on FR Doc # 2015-00450 Submitter Information Name: Louise Amyot General Comment I live in Greenfield, Massachusetts, a 20-minute drive south from Brattleboro VT, closer than that to the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power plant. Even so, our town has never been within the warning district in the event of a nuclear disaster at Vermont Yankee.
To learn now that a major decrease in precautions would be allowed for this nuclear plant while millions of curies sit in water casks designed to hold only a few thousand, upriver from us, vulnerable to explosions caused by over-heating or terrorist attacks by air, land and water, is positively terrifying. Whose welfare does the NRC have in mind? For whom is the NRC supposed to be working? Have we learned nothing from Chernobyl and Fukushima? Is human life so cheap? Doesn't anyone realize how large an area of our country would become a dead zone in the event of a nuclear disaster here? How many of us would die? How many of us would lose everything we own? Be sickened with horrible symptoms and dependent on government health care?
Of course, in the event of a disaster, you all would lie to the American people, play down the event and its effects and pretend that life could go on down river knowing fully that tons of fish in the river, going down to the Mississippi and beyond, would be poisoned. This has been the government's historical response.
Why don't you at the NRC change your tune and start dealing with Vermont Yankee in an honest, responsible way and do what is needed to protect the people of the area and the nation?! This would be a wonderful opportunity to show us and the world that you really do work for the good of the nation.
