SUBJECT:

INDUSTRY COMMENTS ON NRC PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE ELECTRICAL AGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS FOR THE DRAFT GENERIC AGING LESSONS LEARNED FOR SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL REPORT

Dear Mr. Remer:

Thank you for your letter of January 26, 2014, providing feedback on NRCs discussion of the proposed changes to the electrical aging management programs in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) license renewal guidance documents, NUREG-1801, Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report, Rev. 2, dated December 2010, and NUREG-1800, Standard Review Plan for Review of License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants, (SRP-LR),

Rev. 2. The NRC staff is revising these documents to provide generic guidance to utilities wishing to apply for subsequent license renewal (SLR) for operation beyond 60 years.

We have entered the comments in our technical issues database. Your letter and the attachment are also available in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under ADAMS Accession Nos. ML15049A465 and ML15049A466.

As we are in the final stages of drafting the Generic Aging Lessons Learned for Subsequent License Renewal (GALL-SLR) Report, we will likely not respond to your comments in the draft version of the GALL-SLR Report, which we plan to release late in 2015. However, the comments will be reviewed and considered for the final version of the GALL-SLR Report.

If you have any questions, please contact Bennett Brady of my staff by telephone at 301-415-2981 or by e-mail at Bennett.Brady@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
