ACE - Police Investigation at Limerick [EDATS 2015-0037]

Mrs. Cuthbert, Im sure you understand that we cannot provide much information when it comes to nuclear power plant security. However, I can tell you that before any vehicle enters the Limerick site, it is stopped and searched to assure it doesnt contain anything that is banned per the site security plan.

On Saturday, the search conducted by security officers found indications of explosive residue.

This resulted in alerting local authorities, in accordance with the security plan. As you heard on the news, local officials then responded to the site. Ultimately, the shipment was denied. No further information on this incident can be provided.

Youve requested we provide you with documents. As weve already explained, police reports would need to be requested from the police department. NRC documents can be requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). You may submit a FOIA request to the NRC by mail, e-mail, or fax, addressed to the NRC Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act Officer, as follows:

By mail : U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Mail Stop T-5 F09 Washington, DC 20555-0001 You can also submit the request via email FOIA.resource@nrc.gov . Or you can use an online form at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/foia/foia-submittal-form.html Under the Freedom of Information Act, you may request access to any record maintained by the NRC. This does not mean, however, that the NRC will disclose any record you request. FOIA establishes certain statutory exemptions and exclusions that authorize the NRC to withhold information of a sensitive nature. When the NRC does withhold information from you, we will cite the relevant FOIA exemption.

You should also understand that the purpose of the FOIA is to give the public access to existing government records. That is, the Act does not require agencies to create records or develop information to satisfy your request, or to conduct research or investigations or analyze data to answer your written questions. The FOIA does not obligate us to provide records that were destroyed or discarded before we received your request or were not created until after we received your request.

Additional information on the FOIA process is available at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/foia/foia-request.html

I would also like to inform you that my below initial response to you was unusual in that occurred during non-normal business hours. This was an exception and in the future you should expect to receive an initial response within 1 - 3 business days after the email is received. Unless otherwise stated in the initial response, a follow-up final response will be developed when we are able and likely within 30 - 90 days.
