SUBJECT:
RESULTS OF PERIODIC REVIEW OF REGULATORY GUIDE (RG) 1.142, REVISION 2 This memorandum documents the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) periodic review of Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.142, Revision 2, Safety-Related Concrete Structures for Nuclear Power Plants Other than Reactor Vessels and Containments. The RG describes methods that NRC staff considers acceptable for complying with NRC regulations in the design, evaluation, and quality assurance of safety-related concrete structures excluding concrete reactor vessels and concrete containment. It was last revised in 2001. As discussed in Management Directive 6.6 Regulatory Guides, the NRC staff reviews regulatory guides approximately every 5 years to ensure that the guides continue to provide useful guidance.
Documentation of the staffs review is enclosed.
Based on the results of the periodic review, the staff concludes that a revision to RG 1.142 Revision 2 is warranted. The work is planned to start in Quarter 3 of 2015 with a draft RG by Quarter 4 of 2015 with release for public comment by the second or third Quarter of 2016.
