UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION II 245 PEACHTREE CENTER AVENUE NE, SUITE 1200 ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30303-1257 December 12, 2014 Mr. Mano Nazar President and Chief Nuclear Officer Nuclear Division NextEra Energy P.O. Box 14000 Juno Beach, FL 33408-0420
SUBJECT:
U.S. NUCLEAR REGUALTORY COMMISSION PARTICIPATION IN THE TURKEY POINT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE ON FEBRUARY 25, 2015
Dear Mr. Nazar:
The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) routinely participates in licensees emergency preparedness (EP) exercises to ensure that the NRCs Incident Response capabilities are effectively maintained, and to provide licensees an opportunity to exercise the interface with the NRC that may occur during the response to an incident at their sites. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our intent to participate in the Turkey Point Emergency Preparedness Exercise that is scheduled to occur on February 25, 2015, which was previously discussed with MarKeith Poteat of your staff.
The extent of participation will involve Region II response staff. The Regional response will involve activating our Region II Incident Response Center and sending an NRC Site Team, including our resident inspectors, to your facilities. If our scope of participation changes, we will contact your EP staff to discuss the changes. We will also be coordinating with your staff to schedule pre-exercise outreach discussions with our emergency response coordinators. These discussions further reinforce concepts related to NRC incident response activities.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room, or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS); accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).
2 M. Nazar If you have any questions concerning our participation, please contact our senior emergency response coordinator, Mr. Steven B. Rudisail at 404-997-4512, or me at 404-997-4653.
Sincerely,
/RA/
