UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 29, 2014 Mr. Jason Remer Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F. St, NW Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20004-1218

SUBJECT:

INDUSTRY RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE AGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR FLOW-ACCELERATED CORROSION

Dear Mr. Remer:

Thank you for providing answers on behalf of the nuclear energy industry to our questions related to an industry recommendation for the future revision of the Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report, NUREG-1801, Revision 2, for subsequent license renewal. Industry recommended that we include a reference to the Electric Power Research Institutes report Recommendations for an Effective Flow-Accelerated Corrosion Program, NSAC-202L, Revision 4.

In a telephone conference on August 25, 2014, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) asked for additional information to be made publicly available on three new methods for calculating component wear for consideration for inclusion in a flow-accelerated corrosion program in our revised guidance for subsequent license renewal. Your letter and attachment, containing this additional information, have been entered in our Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under ADAMS Accession numbers ML14309A524 and ML14309A525. The information you provided will be considered by our expert panels drafting guidance for subsequent license renewal.

We will be publishing for public comment the draft Generic Aging Lessons Learned Report for Subsequent License Renewal and the draft Standard Review Plan for Review of Subsequent License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants in late 2015. The NRC will issue a notice in the Federal Register requesting public comments at that time.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Bennett Brady of my staff by telephone at 301-415-2981 or by e-mail at Bennett.Brady@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Christopher G. Miller, Director Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
