UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 29, 2014 Mr. Jason Remer Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F. St, NW Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20004-1218

SUBJECT:

INDUSTRY COMMENTS FOR UPDATING GENERIC AGING LESSONS LEARNED REPORT, REVISION 2, AND STANDARD REVIEW PLAN FOR LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONS FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS, REVISION 2

Dear Mr. Remer:

Thank you for your letters of October 16, 2014, and October 28, 2014, providing additional recommendations on behalf of the nuclear energy industry for revising the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license renewal guidance documents, NUREG-1801 Revision 2, Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report, and NUREG-1800, Revision 2, Standard Review Plan for Review of License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants, (LR-SRP).

The NRC staff is revising these documents to provide generic guidance to utilities wishing to apply for subsequent license renewal (SLR) for operation beyond 60 years.

We have entered the comments in our technical issues database and have verified that the comments have been correctly binned in the database. Your letters and their attachments are also available in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under ADAMS Accession Numbers ML14293A818, ML14293A824, ML14304A766, and ML14304A767. The comments are being reviewed by the various NRC expert panels that are drafting the guidance for SLR.

We will be publishing for public comment the draft Generic Aging Lessons Learned Report for Subsequent License Renewal and the draft Standard Review Plan for Review of Subsequent License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants in late 2015. The NRC will issue a notice in the Federal Register requesting public comments at that time.

If you have any questions, please contact Bennett Brady of my staff by telephone at 301-415-2981 or by e-mail at Bennett.Brady@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Christopher G. Miller, Director Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
