Docket Nos. 50-275-LR and 50-323-LR RE: Projected Schedule for Completion of the Safety and Environmental Evaluations

Dear Administrative Judges:

Pursuant to the Boards Revised Scheduling Order of November 19, 2012, this letter informs the Board of the NRC Staffs current milestone schedule for the Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 license renewal safety evaluation and environmental review. On September 10, 2014, PG&E transmitted its Final Seismic Report to the NRC Staff and parties and notified the Board.

The Staff expects that it will need until February 2015 to review PG&Es Final Seismic Report and consider how, if at all, it pertains to environmental and/or safety license renewal matters.

As noted in our April 2014 Schedule update, the Staff has determined that it also needs additional information from PG&E to complete its environmental review (e.g., CZMA information). PG&Es June 4, 2014 letter indicates that it will (1) address the NRCs request to provide this information to the extent possible in the December 2014 license renewal annual update and (2) discuss a schedule for providing any additional information not provided in the December 2014 update and any further information the NRC requires to proceed with the

review. Depending upon the information submitted in December 2014, the Staff expects it could take eight months to publish the draft supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) (i.e.,

until August 2015) and until March 2016 to publish the final SEIS.

In terms of the Staffs safety evaluation, the safety evaluation report (SER) was issued on June 2, 2011, and it will be supplemented as necessary to include any new information provided in PG&Es December 2014 annual update, new information relevant from operating experience, and information submitted in response to the staffs updated guidance since 2011 for which Diablo Canyon might be subjected to. The Staff expects to finalize its safety review, including issuance of any necessary supplements to the SER, by the end of 2015.

Sincerely,

/Signed (electronically) by/
