SUBJECT:

APPROVAL OF TRUCK ROUTE NO. 247 HIGHWAY ROUTE APPLICATION FROM BYRON NUCLEAR GENERATION STATION TO IDAHO NATIONAL LABS

Dear Mr. Williams:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your letter dated July 3, 2014, which requested the NRC approve a new Truck Route designated as No. 247 for transporting spent nuclear fuel from the Byron Nuclear Generation Station, Ogle County, Illinois to Idaho National Laboratory, Scoville, Idaho.

The NRC has reviewed your application and concluded that the information satisfies the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 73.37. This letter constitutes approval of Truck Route No. 247 which will expire August 30, 2019. The NRC expects your periodic review and update of the emergency phone numbers associated with this route. Changes to emergency contact numbers do not qualify as a route deviation or change.

If you have questions on this route approval or require additional information, please contact Mr. Jackson at (301) 287-3593 or via e-mail at Gerard.Jackson@NRC.Gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
