License Renewal Process
- If a Request for Hearing is Granted
- 1. In the Safety Review, the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) conducts an independent review of the application
- 2. Findings from NRC region-based inspectors are used to inform the safety review 7
(-T:7l- !_i iLicense Renewal Safety Principles The regulatory process, continued into the extended period of operation, is adequate to ensure that the current licensing basis of all currently operating plants provides an acceptable level of safety, with the possible exception of the detrimental effects of aging on certain systems, structures, and components, and possibly a few other issues related to safety only during the period of extended operation, and Each plant's current licensing basis is required to be maintained during the renewal term.

Safety Review Focus Safety review focus is on the effects of aging on:
Safety-related systems, structures, and components (SSCs)
Non-safety related SSCs which, if they failed, could affect safety-related SSC functions SSCs relied upon for compliance with regulations Safety review is to determine if aging effects will be effectively managed 9
